Clash of Clans Archer Tower Guide: Attack & Weakness Tips

Archer Towers are one of the most versatile structures in Clash of Clans. Not only are they able to protect your village from troops that are moving in on the ground level, but they’re also able to protect you from enemies that are attacking from the air. In this article, we’re going to cover just how useful they’re capable of being – You’ll learn exactly where you should place them, when you should upgrade them, and how long you’ll have to wait to get more. In conjunction with all of the other defensive mechanisms, your Archer Towers are incredibly crucial to your town’s survival.

The Basics of Clash of Clans Archer Towers

Your Archer Towers will only be able to attack a single unit at a time, but since they’re able to target air attacks as well as those that come from the ground, it’s actually as though they’re performing double duty. They attack once every second and have a range of ten yards. The building itself takes up a 3×3 space, so you’ll want to keep that in mind when you’re planning your land out.

Your Archer Tower’s strength will increase significantly with each level you pass, so don’t be deterred from utilizing them in the beginning of the game – As you progress, so will your defense.

Clash of Clans Archer Tower: Levels

As you progress through the game to higher Town Hall levels, you’ll be given more Archer Towers to help you defend your village. Here’s a quick rundown of exactly how many you’ll get on each level:

– Town Hall 1: 0
– Town Hall 2: 1
– Town Hall 3: 1
– Town Hall 4: 2
– Town Hall 5: 3
– Town Hall 6: 3
– Town Hall 7: 4
– Town Hall 8: 5
– Town Hall 9: 6
– Town Hall 10: 7

As you can see, by the time you reach level ten you should have more than enough towers to help you cover your base, provided you know exactly where and how to utilize them to their full capability.

Know Where To Put Them

Your Archer towers will generally do best when they’re located at the perimeter of your village since they’re able to quickly and easily thin out your enemies (both in the air and on land). When paired with a cannon to help out with land defence, the Archer Tower is really able to shine and has a better chance of protecting you than when it’s left to fend off everyone by itself (plus the tower will help protect your cannons from getting taken out by an air attack).

Upgrades Are Important, But They Can Wait A While

Upgrading your Archer Towers is less time consuming relatively inexpensive in comparison to what it costs for some of the other defensive buildings, and as the game progresses you’ll have so many of them that it won’t matter if you lose a couple of them at a time while they level up. That said, it’s important to remember that all of your towers are at the maximum level before you move on to the next town level.

Where this rule changes is once you reach Town Hall 7. You see, a level 7 Archer Tower is able to kill off a level 5 tower in one hit, so once you reach that stage in the game you’re going to want to upgrade all of your towers to level seven as soon as you possibly can. By the time you reach levels nine and ten, at least make sure that your towers are upgraded to level 8 quickly, then you can make them a lesser priority again.

One Hit Kills Are Of Utmost Importance

It might not seem like such a big deal for your Archer Towers to kill of your enemy’s tower in one swift hit, but it is. Think about it – If you can only shoot once per second and it take two hits for you to knock off your enemy’s Archer tower, that’s an entire second that your towers are going to be susceptible to enemy attacks. If your attacker has remembered to upgrade their towers to the highest level, there’s a good chance that you won’t even get the opportunity to knock them out with your second shot.

Remember Your Weaknesses

Even though it can be upgraded relatively quickly and easily without using up too many of your resources and can defend your village from both land and air attacks, it’s important to remember that your Archer Towers have a pretty low health score. All it will take to destroy them is 10-15 enemy Archers or some Barbarians.

Companion Defenses

In addition to cannons, it might be useful for you to place Mortars deep within your base to help prevent your Archer Towers from becoming overwhelmed by an attack. Don’t worry if you’re unable to get Mortars though – You end up with so many Archer Towers as you progress that they’re a building that very rarely needs defending. Just remember to make sure that you keep them on the outside of your base, throw a wall in front of them for good measure, and you’ll be well on your way to an incredibly successful defense strategy.

Attacking Your Enemy

When you’re going up against an enemy with Archer Towers, it’s best to use a combination of high and low health troops with a high attack rate, that way the high health troops can soak up the majority of the damage from the attack and your low health troops can sweep in and conquer.

You don’t need to have a trainer archer in order to have an archer tower, nor do you need to unlock the archer in your barracks. He’s basically completely useless and just sits atop the tower for aesthetic purposes, so don’t let not having one deter you from using these handy defense towers!

Now that you have all the knowledge you need on how to defend your village using the Archer Towers, you’re well on your way to mastering Clash of Clans. Check out some of our other articles to learn even more.
